Art by Design Wrap-Up

During October Architecture Month the local chapter of the AIA, hosted an art show to display the talent of local designers, students, and architects. For those who missed the show, here is a look at some of the over 40 works on exhibit that night. The above Photograph by Henry Scott received the People’s Choice award.

There was a dramatic set of hand sculpted light fixtures and tables by Hoffmann:

The Women In Architecture (WIA) Committee submitted a group mobile of ink drawings on cocktail napkins, spinning in the air. The architect has a history of developing building ideas based off late night bar discussions, sketched on napkins. This activity has been  encouraged in the last few years by Architectural Record Magazine, sponsoring a Cocktail Napkin Drawing Competition which has revived it as an art form. The WIA committee had a stack of cocktail napkins and pens on hand to get those attending to join in the fun of creating art.

Carmelo Monti displayed two pen drawings in the Japanese style, one with calligraphy ornamentation, “Mt. Fuji” and Guilin”:

There were some great paintings and drawings by Sofia Stable, Doug and Kelly Kleppin, Greg Stock and a  conte crayon drawing by Zoan:

The show included a few concrete and found object mixed media constructions “PUSH web” and “Terra Concreta” by Richard Reep:
