A strategic location in history, Port Canaveral’s ocean gateway has been at the epicenter of Spanish exploration in the New World, Revolutionary battles, the burgeoning of Florida’s cruise and tourist industries, mankind’s space exploration…and more.
To honor the past and celebrate the Space Coast’s continuing achievements, an iconic structure is being raised seven stories above a lakefront Port site, highly visible for miles around. This Exploration Tower will be the centerpiece of an extensive redevelopment of The Cove harborside dining and retail area, as well as a community hub, repository of local history, visitor magnet and gateway to the region’s attractions.
The $21 million, 22,000-square-foot Center is the design of GWWO Architects, also responsible for the George Washington Visitor Center and Museum at Mount Vernon. Haley Sharpe Design, creators of displays for famous attractions including the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, is developing exciting interactive exhibits unique to the Exploration Tower and the Space Coast.
Join the Urban Land Institute for their November event:
“ULI Getting Ahead of Change: Space Coast Economy Leaps Ahead” John Walsh will discuss the vision for Port expansion, followed by a conversation with Matt Taylor, Lynda Weatherman, and Commissioner Chuck Nelson, on how Brevard County has become a new destination for consumer markets and leisure activities.
