New Graduate Building at Adventist University of Health Sciences

HuntonBrady Architects recently completed design of a new 755,000 sf, three-story academic building for  graduate programs in nurse anesthesia, physician’s assistant, physical and occupational therapy at Adventist University of Health Sciences in Orlando. The new building is part of a modern, collegial environment that allows for multidisciplinary use between the University and Florida Hospital. They situated the building to take advantage of views of Lake Estelle and Lake Winyah. Floor to ceiling windows capitalize on natural light in spacious classrooms and laboratories. The building was designed with US Green Building Council LEED principles in mind. Sustainable practices and finishes include water bottle refill centers, motion activated lights, low VOC paints and materials and recycling construction waste.

The building features a large conference room with floor-to-ceiling SMART boards for hosting  educational hospital and community events, as well as a simulation operating room shared by  students and physicians for continuing education. The new academic center also houses clinical  labs, physical therapy and occupational therapy labs, multi-disciplinary classrooms and  registration and enrollment services.

Founded in 1992, Adventist University of Health Sciences in Orlando currently enrolls 2,700  students in its associate, bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. This is the fifth building HuntonBrady has  designed on the University’s campus, starting in 1992 with a master plan of their 10-acre site  and renovation of a chapel into a learning resource center, and most recently with an academic  and administration building in 2012. Project team members included BBM Structural Engineers,  TLC Engineering for Architecture and Poulos and Bennett.
