Quote: Juhani Pallasmaa

A profound Design process eventually makes the patron, the architect, and every occasional visitor in the building a slightly better human being.

Few people in the architectural world have done more than Juhani Pallasmaa (1936-) to make the complex ideas of phenomenology accessible to the uninitiated; his book “The Eyes of the Skin,” for example, is recommended reading for students in countries the world over.

Juhani Uolevi Pallasmaa is a Finnish architect and former professor of architecture and dean at the Helsinki University of Technology. He has been the Director of the Museum of Finnish Architecture , and head of the Institute of Industrial Arts, Helsinki. He was  Visiting Professor of Architecture at Washington University in St. Louis, Distinguished Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and scholar in residence at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin. Pallasmaa has also lectured widely in Europe, North and South America, Africa and Asia.

You can read more of these quotes in the book : ‘the ARCHIITECT says’, compiled and edited by Laura S. Dushkes, published by the Princeton Architectural Press. She is the architectural librarian at the firm NBBJ in Seattle.
