The Orlando VA Medical Center in Lake Nona has a new facility open for business: the Community Living Center, which is the VA’s local nursing home. The 120-bed, 120,000-square-foot facility moved patients from Lake Baldwin to Lake Nona Dec. 2-10. Rooms are arranged around a common living and dining area for 30 residents, making it seem more intimate and personal. These areas open to an outdoor patio as well for each “household.”
The nursing home has about 170 employees, its staffing ratio is one registered nurse and two certified nursing assistants for every 15 residents. Each resident’s room has a niche beside their door to display personal mementos to share with all the residents.
RLF Inc. and AECOM are the architects and engineers for the project. Brasfield and Gorrie are the general contractor.
